You retain 100% copyright over your recorded videos, transcripts, and campaign exports. You can export PDF campaign summaries or delete your data anytime.

1. Introduction & Scope
WeStory.ai ("WeStory", "we", "us", or "our") respects your personal privacy. This Privacy Policy governs our data collection, storage, AI transcription, media processing, and data retention practices across the WeStory website, web app, and associated digital tools.
By registering for an account, recording video interviews, or uploading content to WeStory, you acknowledge the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy and our Terms of Service.
2. Information We Collect
We collect several types of information from and about users of our platform:
- Account & Profile Data: Name, email address, encrypted authentication tokens, profile photos, and account preferences provided during signup.
- User Video, Audio & Photos (Media Vault): Video interviews, recorded audio clips, historical photos, and accompanying written captions uploaded to the platform.
- AI Transcriptions & Story Text: Synchronized transcripts generated by automated speech-to-text engines, prompt responses, story titles, and text adjustments made by you or invited family members.
- Payment Information: Transaction details, plan tier, and billing addresses processed securely via our payment processor, Stripe. We do not directly store full credit card numbers on WeStory servers.
- Technical & Operational Logs: Device type, browser specifications, IP address, performance telemetry, and access logs to ensure cloud security and stability.
3. AI Processing, Transcriptions & Data Guarantees
WeStory uses artificial intelligence models to convert speech into text transcripts, generate story prompts, provide light grammar adjustments, and generate downloadable campaign PDFs.
AI Model Training Guarantees:
- Zero Public Model Training: All user media, transcripts, and personal stories are strictly excluded from training or fine-tuning public language or voice models.
- Commercial Enterprise APIs: We route speech-to-text and AI prompt requests through enterprise API providers bound by agreements prohibiting data retention for training purposes.
- No Synthetic Voice Replication: Spoken audio is processed solely for text transcription and synchronization. We do not generate voice clones, synthetic audio replicas, or public voice models.
4. WeStory Studio & Commercial Adaptation Program
WeStory offers an optional commercial scouting program where curated family stories may be submitted for documentary, screenplay, or publishing consideration.
Participation in this program is 100% voluntary and requires an explicit opt-in action within your account settings. You retain full ownership and approval rights over any commercial deal, backed by a net revenue share (up to 70% to the story creator). Unsubmitted stories remain entirely private within your vault.
5. Third-Party Infrastructure & Subprocessors
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to data brokers or advertisers. Data is processed exclusively by verified cloud infrastructure providers:
- Cloud Infrastructure by Amazon Web Services (AWS): Secure cloud hosting, serverless functions, database hosting, and encrypted S3 media storage (US regions).
- Enterprise AI Processing Partners (e.g., Deepgram, OpenAI): Secure streaming speech-to-text transcription and prompt generation via zero-training enterprise APIs.
- Payment Processing by Stripe: Payment processing, fraud prevention, and subscription management. All cardholder data is securely handled via Stripe's PCI-DSS compliant infrastructure.
6. Children's Privacy (COPPA Compliance)
WeStory accounts must be created and managed by individuals who are at least 18 years of age (or the legal age of majority in their jurisdiction).
Family video interviews may occasionally feature memories, images, or voice recordings of minor family members. Such content is maintained strictly within the private family space managed by the adult account holder and is never publicly indexed or used for marketing.
7. Your Data Rights & Campaign Exports (GDPR & CCPA/CPRA)
Depending on your jurisdiction, you hold the following statutory data rights:
- Right of Access & Portability: Export all stories and transcripts within a campaign into formatted PDF documents, or download your raw video clips at any time.
- Right to Deletion: Permanently erase your account and associated media archives from our systems.
- Right to Rectification: Edit, refine, or update any transcripts or profile records.
- California Residents (CCPA/CPRA): WeStory does not sell or share personal data for behavioral advertising.
8. Account Deletion Protocol & Data Erasure
To protect your family memories from accidental loss, account deletion requires a explicit two-step confirmation process in account settings:
Hard-Deletion Protocol:
- Initiate the deletion request within Account Settings.
- Type the required confirmation phrase ("unsubscribe") in the secondary verification prompt.
Upon final confirmation, your account enters an immediate Hard Delete workflow. All associated video files, audio recordings, images, transcripts, and account database records are permanently purged from active AWS production storage. Because this action is permanent and immediate, exported backups (such as downloadable campaign PDFs) should be saved prior to confirming deletion.
